New Orleans Airport, British Airways Celebrate One Year of Nonstop Flights to London - 3/27/2018 -

NEW ORLEANS–Today, the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and British Airways celebrate one year of nonstop flights between New Orleans and London.  During British Airways’ first year at MSY, the airline made more than 450 trips between New Orleans and London.

In March 2017, British Airways began year-round service from MSY to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) four times per week, which was New Orleans’ first scheduled non-stop flight to Europe since the 1980s. Due to the high demand for the service upon its launch, British Airways added another frequency in October 2017, and the flight now operates five times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

"With the accessibility this flight has created, we are able to share New Orleans’ history, culture, and hospitality with the world,” said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu. "New Orleanians are now more connected to Europe than ever before, and we are thrilled to welcome more international visitors to New Orleans as we celebrate our Tricentennial year.”

Doug Caines, British Airways’ Vice President Operations North America, said, "We are delighted to be celebrating this anniversary in New Orleans. We thank the city and airport authority for their support and look forward to welcoming our customers to London and beyond. This is a special year for New Orleans, and British Airways is proud to be part of the celebrations”.

From London Heathrow, British Airways’ customers can connect seamlessly to over 130 destinations in Europe and beyond. British Airways operates a Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner, one of the newest aircraft in their fleet. The aircraft is divided into three cabins with 154 seats in World Traveller (economy), 25 seats in World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and 35 seats in Club World (business). Passengers can enjoy complimentary meals, beverages, and a free checked bag. Book your flight now on ba.com.

Cheryl Teamer, New Orleans Aviation Board Chairwoman said "One year ago today, British Airways announced its service to the Airport’s first European destination in more than 25 years. This flight has already had such a positive impact on the region and we look forward to the many years to come.”

Kevin Dolliole, Director of Aviation at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, said "Having this nonstop, international service from New Orleans to London with British Airways has opened the world to the region and vice versa. We are very excited to continue our partnership with British Airways and congratulate them on a successful first year of flying from MSY.

New Orleans City Councilmember Jared Brossett, Chair of the Transportation and Airport Committee, said, "I would like to applaud British Airways on a successful first year. I believe this special milestone represents the first of many years of increased connectivity between New Orleans and London.”
