New Service and Ultra-Low Fares - 8/31/2015 -

 View Document

Ultra-low cost service continues to grow at Armstrong International with the most recent announcement by Spirit Airlines to begin daily service to Las Vegas, Nevada.  Service between Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and McCarran International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas begins on Friday, November 13, 2015.  Spirit currently serves five other nonstop destinations from New Orleans – Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Ft. Lauderdale and Houston – offering many connections beyond these cities.

On average, Spirit Airlines’ fares are nearly 40% less than other airlines according to U.S. Department of Transportation statistics. They offer an unbundled product with ultra-low fares and a range of optional services for a fee.  This allows passengers to choose the perks they prefer, such as checking bags, seat assignments, and refreshments.

Spirit Airlines   currently operates more than 375 daily flights to 57 destinations within the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean.  Spirit operates a modern and fuel-efficient all-Airbus fleet.  Flights to all these destinations are available at www.spirit.com

New service, whether it’s a new airline, new destination, or increased frequency to an existing destination, creates more competition across all carriers and provides the New Orleans Region greater options for travel.  When you couple ultra-low fares with new service, customers who may have previously been unable to afford to travel can now visit incredible destinations like Las Vegas.

Allegiant Air is another ultra-low cost airline that began service earlier this year to Cincinnati, Ohio (CVG); Columbus-Rickenbacker, Ohio (LCK); Indianapolis, Indiana (IND); and Orlando-Sanford, Florida (SFB).  In addition to offering air-only sales, Allegiant Air offers other travel-related products such as hotel rooms, rental cars, and attraction tickets.  Other products available for purchase include advance seat assignments, priority boarding, checked and carry-on baggage, beverages, and snacks.  By offering a menu of services that a passenger can choose, Allegiant Air can offer ultra-low air fares.  For Allegiant Air booking, complete pricing, and availability, please visit www.allegiantair.com. (Tickets are not available for sale through online travel agencies, such as Expedia or Travelocity.)

Our increase in nonstop destinations and low cost airlines has made Armstrong International one of the most affordable airports to fly to and from.  Our average air fare is $360 according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, which consists of domestic round-trip fares, including taxes and fees at the time of purchase. The Airport continues to recruit more air service to provide the most efficient opportunities for travel to and from our great city. The Airport currently has a total of 14 airlines serving 46 non-stop destinations, which are all-time Airport record highs for the number of airlines and non-stops
