Hidden Disabilities Program

The Hidden Disabilities Program began in London’s Gatwick Airport in 2016, using colorful green lanyards with sunflowers. It has been adopted by many airports worldwide and has become an international symbol for those that need a little extra assistance due to a hidden disability like autism, anxiety disorders, dementia, low vision, hearing loss, epilepsy, mobility issues, or various other issues.

MSY is joining more than 80 airports around the world and will be one of 20 in the United States providing this program to passengers. See the full list of airports here.

This program allows our staff to identify those in need of an extra level of customer service by use of a sunflower lanyard or bracelet.  We want to ensure a positive travel experience to all of our passengers at MSY. While they do provide a discreet signal to employees, wearing a lanyard does not guarantee fast tracking through security or any preferential TSA treatment. Passengers are encouraged to arrange any special assistance needed with their airline or TSA Cares.

Sunflower lanyards and bracelets are available free of charge for travelers at the Customer Service Desk, located on Level 1 between Doors 2 and 3.
