Airport Status Updates

Current as of 9/9/2021 at 10 a.m. CST

The Airport is continuing its damage assessments and repairs are underway. The initial damage findings were that:

  • The runways and taxiways did not experience any damage, and the Airport is operational.
  • There was no significant damage to terminal facility with the exception of some passenger boarding bridges.
  • Although some of the terminal’s passenger boarding bridges experienced some level of damage in the storm, this had minimal impact on operations because the Airport can work with airlines to reassign gates for flights. The repairs are ongoing.
  • The Airport lost commercial power from Entergy Sunday, Aug. 29, and the terminal operated on full emergency generator power. Commercial power from Entergy was restored in the terminal facility on Saturday, Sept. 4.
  • The Airport lost water pressure from the Jefferson Parish Water System, which impacted the functionality of restrooms and air conditioning chillers for the terminal. Water pressure was restored on Wednesday, Sept. 1 allowing restrooms and the air conditioning systems to become operational again, and the boil water advisory in Jefferson Parish was lifted on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
  • All landline phones were out of service following the storm, but service was restored on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
  • Crews have cleared debris on the Airport roadways.
