Boil Water Advisory Issued
A boil water advisory has been issued for the east bank of Jefferson Parish, which includes the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). According to the Jefferson Parish Water Department and the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), they issued the advisory as a precautionary measure due to a loss of pressure in the distribution system following repeated power surges and outages at the water treatment plant.
As a precaution, the Airport has closed all water fountains in the terminal. Airlines along with restaurant and retail operators were advised to take the necessary steps to ensure safety during food preparation or beverage service.
Rigorous handwashing for basic hygiene is safe in the restrooms unless you have a weakened immune system. Passengers are advised not to drink tap water in the terminal until the boil water advisory is lifted.
This boil water advisory will remain in effect until rescinded by the Jefferson Parish Water Department or the LDH. Bacteriological samples from the distribution system will be collected and analyzed to assure the water meets potable water standards.
