Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport Gears Up for Super Bowl LIX

NEW ORLEANS – As the countdown to Super Bowl LIX begins, the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is prepared to welcome visitors from around the globe, ensuring a seamless and unforgettable travel experience that reflects the spirit of New Orleans.

In preparation for the big game, MSY has been coordinating with its stakeholders—including airlines, public safety agencies, concessionaires, transportation providers and more —for over a year to ensure a safe, efficient, and welcoming experience for all passengers.

Additional Air Service

The Airport is anticipating record travel numbers during the Super Bowl period. Many airlines have added special flights to and from New Orleans for the Super Bowl to accommodate the additional demand.

For the Super Bowl travel period of Sunday, Feb. 2 – Tuesday, Feb. 11, there will be over 546,000 available airline seats arriving to and departing from the Louis Armstrong Airport. Friday, Feb. 7 is expected to be the busiest day for arrivals with over 38,000 seats available that day. Monday, Feb. 10 is expected to be the busiest day for departures with over 44,000 seats available that day.

In addition to commercial flights, the Airport is preparing for a surge in private aircraft activity with up to 1,500 private operations expected.

Know Before You Go

Passengers are advised to be patient and prepare for the increase in activity. To ensure travel is as smooth as possible, the Airport reminds passengers to follow the 4-3-2-1 tips when planning their departure.

  • 4 HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE: Arrange your transportation/drop off rental car.
  • 3 HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE: Check your bags with your airline.
  • 2 HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE: Get in line at the TSA security checkpoint.
  • 1 HOUR BEFORE DEPARTURE: Be at the gate, ready to board.

Passengers are also advised to place their game programs in their carry-on bags to ensure a smooth screening process.

Enhanced Customer Experience
MSY is committed to elevating the customer experience for Super Bowl travelers. Enhancements include:

  • Fans can pick up Super Bowl LIX merchandise and exclusive team gear throughout the Airport. There will be pop-up shops located in the Rental Car Facility, Baggage Claim and Concourse A with branded apparel, cups, koozies and other accessories as well as beverage options.
  • Some restaurants and shops will have extended hours of operation and will remain open from Sunday morning opening through Monday evening closing. See all concessions locations here: https://flymsy.com/shop-dine-relax/.
  • In partnership with the New Orleans Super Bowl Host Committee, deploying 600 local ambassadors throughout the terminal to welcome and assist travelers.
  • Live musical performances and other interactive experiences for passengers. See schedule here: https://flymsy.com/music/

Security and Efficiency at the Forefront
To ensure the safety of passengers, public safety officials at Louis Armstrong Airport are implementing extensive security and operational measures, including:

  • The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is bringing in 100 additional Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) and additional K9 teams from across the country.
  • Federal Air Marshal teams will conduct security operations and law enforcement deployments to critical transportation venues across the city.

Optimized Ground Transportation
Louis Armstrong Airport is also optimizing its ground transportation operations to accommodate the increased demand:

  • From 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 – 5 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, rideshare app users will be picked up from Level 1 of the Short-Term Parking Garage. Passenger may exit through Door 6 from Level 1.  Once they get to the pick-up location, they may proceed to the zone provided within the app.
  • Additional staging areas for black car and ground transportation operators.
  • Enhanced allocation of space in the Ground Transportation Center to support efficiency.

As Super Bowl excitement builds, MSY is ready to welcome fans with open arms and a world-class airport experience. The airport team is committed to ensuring that travelers’ journeys begin and end with the very best of New Orleans hospitality.
