About Music @ MSY Residency
A Call for Musicians is issued once a year. The Entertainment Evaluation Committee then reviews and evaluates the submissions, recommending acts to rotate through performances for the year. This committee includes representatives from each of the following: the New Orleans Aviation Board (NOAB), the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy, Airport concessions, and the local music community. The music community representatives rotate each year.
Local solo acts and bands complete an interest form to be considered for the Airport’s music program. Jazz is the preferred genre for performances at the terminal, however, the following genres may also be considered: blues, zydeco, funk, R&B/soul, and classical. Talent is evaluated based on the performance samples submitted during the application process.
Each act is evaluated on the following: appearance, stage presence, sound quality, content quality, and representation of New Orleans Culture. Committee members review submitted performance samples and complete an online evaluation form. Acts with upbeat, welcoming, and engaging performance styles are preferred for this venue.
The final entertainment selections for each performance period are made by the New Orleans Aviation Board.
*Local acts are defined as those with primary residence in the Greater New Orleans area, which includes Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington Parishes.
